On this day in 1954 Machine Gun Kelly died of heart attack while serving his 3 years at Leavenworth, after being transferred from a 17 year spell at Alcatraz.
Kelly operated throughout the prohibition era and got his nickname from his favorite weapon of choice, the Thompson submachine gun (his real name was George Francis Barnes). He died on his 59th birthday.
