On this day in 2007 Ryoichi Sugiura, a senior member of a group affiliated to the Sumiyoshi-kai, a Tokyo-based gang with a history of violent conflict with the Yamaguchi-gumi was gunned down in his car, in Tokyo. This would spark a massive aftermath and turf-war in retaliation for the hit.
